2. Seth Godin, Seth’s blog
By John Jantsch
Seth Godin and Yoda?
Putting Seth Godin on a list of top marketers is a little like putting Yoda on a list of top Jedi Masters. To me, and I’m guessing to thousands of other marketers, he’s in a special class. That statement isn’t meant to disparage any of the other fine folks listed here; it’s meant as acknowledgement of his form of leadership.
Seth is the best kind of marketing leader as he inspires, makes people uncomfortable, mentors, and forces you to go “that’s brilliant,” more than anyone I read and follow. In his writing he seems to have a knack for capturing what a lot of people are thinking, but no one can quite put their finger on, crystallize or package coherently. The fact that many of his blog post headlines suck me in with two or three words is testament to this unique skill.
Another reason he belongs on this list, and many others of its ilk, is that he’s also amazingly generous with his time and attention. He often lends his name and reputation to fledgling authors in the form of book praise. (Including Duct Tape Marketing) He invents collaborative projects that both teach and create awareness for marketers that join them. He is as authentic and generous when he tells you that your idea is full of crap as when he tells you it’s brilliant – now that’s a rare feat.
I’ve had several opportunities to interview Seth over the last few years and this gem from him always makes me laugh: “If people aren’t talking about you, there’s a reason. You’re boring – your products are boring, your services are boring, your message is boring, your marketing is boring . . .”

Congrats Seth!
